Kuzan, better known by his former epithet Aokiji, is a former Marine admiral and the first one to be revealed. He was nominated by Sengoku for the position of fleet admiral.
However, after losing the position to Sakazuki, he resigned from the Marines. He has currently joined the Blackbeard Pirates for unknown reasons.
Always since timeskip two major theories had been brought upon. He lost to Akainu, but SWORD asked him to infiltrate Blackbeard Pirates, and he’s been always a Dragon’s Agent playing the double tag between Blackbeard Pirates and Marines.
I know time wise it’s hard to put that together, but reading the last cover and chapter…feels weird to see that Aokiji has been involved in the (for what we know) the lives of both Robin and Pudding, the both Poneglyph readers.
At the beginning, it just felt the “Good Marine” think to do to let Robin live, and not capture her (Marines would have executed her) but if he needed a Poneglyph reader in the future because he already was working for a Pirate.
At the end of Punk Hazard, Aokiji said something like “I’m still me” to Smoker. Many people think it implies that he didn’t actually become a pirate. However, what if it implies that he was a pirate from the start? Like Vergo of the Donquixote Pirates?
I know it’s super stretch, but I feel like something it’s cooking here. What do you think?
